Unlocking the Power of Ethiopia Health Data to Improve Data-Driven Decision Making

In the ever-evolving landscape of data analysis and increment of data quantity, acquiring the right skills and tools is paramount for professionals seeking to derive actionable insights for driving impactful decision-making. Recently, a transformative Power BI training took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, organized by HABTech Solutions in collaboration with the Ministry of Health  (MOH), from June 7th – 10th, 2023. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this hands-on practical training brought together over 20 participants from MOH, regional health bureaus, and partners. This four-day training program focused on equipping participants with a basic understanding of Power BI.

The training began with an immersive introduction to Power BI, providing participants with a solid foundation on its usage in the Healthcare sector and core functionalities. They delved into the seven modules that covered data discovery and transformation, data modeling and relationships, advanced analytics using DAX, data visualization, and publishing dashboards. Each module was tailored to the unique needs of health professionals, emphasizing practical applications and techniques relevant to their work. 

Throughout the training, the participants showed great enthusiasm and engagement, recognizing the immense value that Power BI brings to their work with healthcare data. Having been introduced to Power BI’s capabilities, they were able to gain the confidence to extract meaningful insights, identify trends, and communicate findings effectively. The event provided professionals with the tools and skills necessary to harness the power of data for better decision-making. Health experts gained the skills and confidence to analyze data effectively using Power BI from the hands-on exercises.

Overall the four-day Power BI training program was a resounding success. HABTech Solutions plans to provide similar training programs in the future to help more professionals stay ahead of the curve in this rapidly evolving field.
